Beginning in January 2020, PulmonIx partnered with Campbell University to allow students to complete a semester-long internship during their final semester. The internship provides students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and prepare for a career in clinical research. Due to the growing demand for high-quality clinical research personnel, the experience from this program will prepare students to be successful in the industry upon graduation. PulmonIx offers a site-level experience to one or two candidates each fall and spring semester.

Fall 2020

I am an intern with PulmonIx, LLC for my Fall 2020 semester with Campbell University. I am obtaining my degree in December 2020 with a B.S. in Clinical Research. I want to join the clinical research industry due to my passion for research and helping patients have a better quality of life. I am excited to join the industry and pursue a career that will combine my passions. I am interested in research associated with psoriasis, rare diseases and veterans PTSD research. Outside of my professional life, I enjoy full time RVing and spending time with family and friends.

In my short time with PulmonIx, I have assisted the Regulatory Coordinator with various projects beginning with study start up to study close out and everything in between. I have facilitated with internal auditing of subject binders and investigator site files. I have learned how to juggle multiple studies and the regulatory work that goes into the maintenance of all the studies PulmonIx is involved in. I have experienced local and central IRB package development and submissions. Alongside working with Dr. Ramaswamy on various documentations specific to Principal Investigators. Although most of my work consisted of regulatory duties, I was able to see clinical coordinator responsibilities and witness pulmonary specific procedures such as a 6 minute walk. Overall, my experiences with PulmonIx have taught me valuable site-related clinical research experience.

Spring 2020

Under PulmonIx/Cone Health – Campbell University research agreement, I am here for a 16-week clinical internship starting from January 8, 2020 to April 29, 2020. I am currently a senior at Campbell University, graduating in May 2020 with a bachelor in clinical research. After graduating, I plan to pursue a doctorate in pharmacy. My hobbies include spending time with my family, traveling, and enjoying recreational television. I chose Pulmonix because I wanted to work in a tight-knit atmosphere and I was interested in getting the hands-on experience at a site level. While interning here, I hope to improve my professional and soft skills, as well as gain a better understanding of clinical research outside of books. I hope to learn about the functions of a site in depth, the regulatory process of a site, site visits, and learn the roles of a clinical coordinator and study coordinator. I am excited to see where this experience will take me. Dr. Ramaswamy and his team and wonderful people, they treat you like family and strive to provide a variety of learning opportunities.
